We understand that President Buhari has rejected the Petroleum Industry Governance Bill sent to him by the National Assembly. The President’s rejection of the PIGB poses a significant set back to the oil and gas reforms going through the National Assembly.
The options available are for the National Assembly to overrule the President. This would require a 2/3rds majority of members present and voting in both houses of the Assembly. In view of the current political climate, this does not seem likely.
